Stated at Blizzcon. Do a search on the developer interviews at
Blizzcon. The developer clearly said that they have no interest in
working on old content - the old content served its purpose and was
The only old raid instance I've read will be updated is Naxx - moving
it to Northrend in the next expansion.
I can't imagine why they would remove them, they probably have

Well, since they have boss encounters that have special abilities, if
your changing the background game engine, you have to go back and test
them to make sure they still work. I could see where maintaining them
could end up costing time and development dollars.
As to them suddenly changing them so the drops are worth while so
people will actually run them again - they won't do this for the same
reason you can't fly from UC to Silvermoon.
Actually I do remember reading a blue post last week that said they
would be updating the Nef event to add death knight class callouts.
And someone from the PTR mentioned that there is a FP from LHC to the
entrance of Zul'Aman, so apparently they have figured out a way of
allowing cross-server flights.
Doubt its anything to do with cross-server flights but putting in
checks so people without TBC can't access its content. I assume it
would work the same way the boat ride over to the Dreanei starting
As far as FP go, you can't fly to a point unless you have visited
there once before. And without the expansion, you can't get through
the portal form EPL to Ghostlands, and you can't use the Orb of
Translocation to teleport from UC to SC. So someone without TBC could
never access the FP in Eversong and Ghostlands.
I always wondered what they had to keep non-expansion players out of
Azuremyst. What happens if you get on the boat without the
expansion? Does it just drop you off in the ocean somewhere?- Hide quoted text -

yes. a friend of mine didnt get the expansion till a month after
release (short on cash) and when the boat would get to the load screen
it would tell you that you need to purchase TBC. he had to hearth back
