My Paladin respecced to Protection around lvl 42 and loved it, but I'm
finding he's having one heck of a time in Outland.
It seems that almost every mob has some sort of special ability that
makes it difficult to fight more than one - a Nature Damage DoT that I
can't Cleanse, leaving me with half health, so I heal and heal and
heal, oops, OOM again, critters that teleport around and it takes me a
while to figure out where they went.
Yesterday I had to kill Tortured Earth Spirits, so I pulled 2 and
started fighting. Every few seconds they'd blast me with some spell
that does around 700 Nature Damage. I only have 6.5K life, so with 2
of them blasting that spell on me, even with Reckoning, JoL and SoL
can't keep up with healing me for the damage. And this is with a
Crystalblade of the Draenei that has a 1.60 weapon speed. I had to
Bubble and Heal.
Same thing with some ogres for the "Don't Kill the Fat One" quest.
Melee mobs! Great. Pull 2, and to my surprise their Cleave or
something like that ability just decimated my health. What the heck?
Where did 6K life go? Bubble and Heal when my life bar is almost gone,
and the second one still almost has full health. Good grief.
So I fight one at a time, which takes forever.
Healer critters are the worst. HoJ . . . but after the 6 seconds is up
they just heal themselves anyway. Arcane Torrent -- ditto. Seal of
Justice . . . but it never stuns at the right time.
Add to that that even with a 2-hander and JoC and SoR, the appropriate
resist aura if I have it, BoM, and Arcane Torrent if it's not on
cooldown, one Caster still takes away half my life, I'm really not
sure what to do with my Paladin at this point.
I struggled to remain a Holy spec through my 40s and 50s, and now in
Outland things are seeming a bit easier (surprisingly). Might be
relative, since the gear just gets that much better. BUT... exorcism/
holy shock/judge righteousness/hammer of wrath is a good technique for
the demons in HFP, and it takes very small amounts of mana to divine
favour + holy light and fully reheal myself. In a pinch I've also got
Holy Wrath, although it might draw aggro from other mobs if you're not
careful.
I burn through lots of mana, so I use seal of wisdom quite a bit on
mobs too.
For casters, I use Seal of Judgement (occasional stuns) + Arcane
Torrent + Hammer of Justice interrupts...more often than not I can
down them before they reheal. Groups of healers are problematic
though.
