Yeah, forgot that you can't get to him :-)
I've fought him with a full group, which had a level
65 shaman tanking. We still wiped. The shaman's
strategy was "the adds all vanish when the boss goes
down, so kill him first". Didn't work. Switched
strategy after two wipes so that we had an off tank
to distract the adds; the off tank died but it was
enough to help us finish.
The 10-level rule of thumb is probably the minimum,
since there are always extra considerations. Ie,
the boss has adds (Van Cleef) or extra damage is
happening (Thermaplugg) or has special abilities
(Arugal) or is just much tougher than other elites
(Aku'mai). If you just want to farm some stuff for
loot then being ten levels above is ok; but if you
want to finish the instance then maybe 15 or more
levels of difference is better.
