Do higher levels get any tangble benefits from soloing 'low level'
dungeons? Drops, rep, xp (although any xp seems unlikely), other?
Perhaps quest chains?

Most likely drops. First of all some items just look good f.e.:
Robes of Arugal from SFK (goes well with Silverthread pieces)
Embrace of the Viper (Fang) set from WC
Chain of the Scarlet Crusade set from SM
....
also some weapons
Stinging Viper from WC (enchanted with demonslayer gives it "dripping molten
iron" look)
Blade of Eternal Darkness from Maraudon (native black "light sucking" glow)
Skullforge Reaver from Stratholme (native purple glow)

Some items have unique useful abilities like water breathing on Hydrocane
from Gnomeregan (there are other items with that ability but since it is a
weapon you can switch it once in a while during combat which makes it so
good).
Some are good for fun: Piccolo of the Flaming Fire from Stratholme (trinket
that forces people around to dance), Cannonball Runner also from Stratholme
(mini cannon), Bouquet of Red Roses from various bosses (permanent version
of that rose petals that you get on Valentine's Day), Dragon's Call from ST
(spawns whelps to help you in combat)...

There are also recipe drops for various professions. Some of them are quite
expensive.

Enchanters can squeeze out most profits from soloing low level instances
since they can get valuable enchanting materials from any green+ items that
drop there.
