For starters, I'm PvE.

The Rogue I have now is going down the Subtlety Tree. I enjoy the
daggers, backstabbing and stealth.. stunning 1 mob while going after

And he's only Level 23ish so still a ways to go and quite a bunch to
learn.

I look down the Assassination tree and I like what I see concerning
bonuses to poisons.

Then I hear about kidney shot... and sword rogues....

So I wonder what the gameplay is like between these different kind of
trees?

Does a combat rogue or assassination rogue mainly face-to-face combat
with swords? While subtlety is all about backstabbing and stealth and
daggers?

Whether you use daggers or not doesn't have much to do with with
talent tree you decide to specialize in. You can do a heavy sub build
that focuses on slow weapons for hemorage. You can do a combat dagger
build that still backstabs well and the 41 point assassination talent
is only useful with daggers.

In general,

- Combat rogues focus on white damage (not your special attacks like
Sinister Strike, backstab and eviscerate) and do the highest overall
damage.

- Sublety rogues focus on openers, they'll do massive damage in the
first few seconds of a fight but they'll start lagging behind if it
takes more than about 10 seconds to kill something. They also tend to
be the hardest to kill since they have preperation.

- Assassination focuses on poison and your finishers (eviscerate,
kidney shot, envenom) and it works well in combination with one of the
other two talent trees.
