I always shift-right-click to auto-loot all items off the corpse then
shift-right-click again to skin. If you do these 2 clicks close
together there's little chance of anyone else ninja-skinning your
kill.

You can save yourself the shift part and just turn autoloot on in the
interface options ;-)

Yes, I noticed that, but I'm so used to shift-clicking to loot all
that it'd be a long process to condition myself otherwise :-)

It took me a couple of days. In the beginning it was annoying to remember to
not use shift to auto loot but the back-conditioning process was fairly
quick :)

With that option turned on, can you still choose what to loot, say by
shift-clicking, or do you always have to loot all ?

Yes
Right-Click: auto loot
Shift-Right-Click: non-auto loot to select

Basically, it just reverts the two modi.
