Following up to Urbin <urbin@xxxxxxxxxxxx> :

In future it may be a good idea at the start of the instance to say "This is
my first character, I've only played a month. I'd be happy for you to give
me any hints with regard to the instance and your looting rules".

And then Ninja everything, just saying, "oops, sorry". ;-)
