One of the hunters in my guild managed to get all the way to level 60
without training any of his pets in Growl.
He only found out that he could when he teamed up with one of the other
hunters who wondered why his pet couldn't hold much aggro and asked
what rank growl his pet had :)

He just thought it was normal for a hunter to shoot things a little and
then melee until the mob was dead...
