I agree in principle with much that you have said. Howeve, you have
to realize that if they host the files directly for such a popular
game, it will require them to have massive amounts of bandwidth [or to
pay for hosting], and in the end, that will come out of the bottom
line ... either they will increase subscription fees or they will
reduce features or reduce support [or they will increase the time
between patches and enhancements].

My only objection is to their crippled torrent client. It should allow
standard 3rd party clients to join the torrent, so that I can pull the
patch to my colocated Linux server for my guildies and provide some return
bandwidth to the swarm, without using one of the ISP-throttled ports.
Cooperating clients can also use encrypted streams.

Everybody has a right to their own opinion. What is more problematic
is when users call themselves experts and demand that Blizzard is the
cause of a problem that they themselves actually created [namely, they
placed a broadband router in between them and the internet].

Putting a broadband router between a Windows box and the Internet is a sign
of responsible netizenship. Fortunately Windows has gotten better over time
at not exposing services to the net, but you still have to leave ports open
to share files with others on your LAN that are not appropriate to open on
the Internet. Hopefully by the time IPv6 takes hold, eliminating the need
for NAT, Windows will be sufficiently secure out of the box to place
directly in sight of the malicious.
