Also, negative resistances influence the amount of damage dealt: try
casting a fireball on a tar lord, for example.
Resistances no longer go negative. I believe that was a 1.10 change. This
was why the Warlock's CoS and CoE now have a 10% damage buff (which is
actually a nerf in total).
Saw some math which placed the nerf as going from ~25-30% bonus damage
possible down to the fixed 10% bonus. My shadowbolts definitely lost
some of their punch, and since resists now no longer go negative I
seem to get more resists as well. Presumably the mobs are now keeping
some minimal amount of resist no matter what debuffs are in place. It
makes more sense to use CoA now, for just the straight damage, unless
you're in a raid.
The one exception still in the game must be Chromaggus, who by design
becomes vulnerable to a different school of magic every few seconds.
If you hit him with anything but the school he's vulnerable to you'll
do almost no damage, but if you hit him with the right school the
results are grin-inducing. :) The one time I've faced him I got a
11k+ CoD proc on him, but unfortunately I was dead and the raid was
wiping as this occurred.
