Howdy!

Helping my WoW buddy build a machine. We have the Sempron 64 2800+
at 1.6 and will be raising it to 2.4 on the Biostar tforce 6100
which is using the onboard dx9 video. I think he's hoping that the
overclock will raise his fps, which is now 14, up to 30. Maybe it
won't and we'll get a geforce 7600GS, which is about the speed of a
6600GT. Any thoughts? Thanks.

PS We have 2 gigs of g.skill pc500 :-) yeah !!!

I'd say you're definately limited by your GPU. Doing a quick once-over on
the biostar website, they don't mention the amount of RAM allocated to
video. Is your system RAM shared with video RAM? If so, go into the BIOS
and max out the amount of RAM being allocated to video. This should
increase performance, but since it's a pretty low-end GPU by today's
standards, you won't see great performance even on the best of days. You
could free up some CPU cycles by going with a dedicated sound card as well.
The onboard realtek audio chipset uses your CPU for audio processing and
could be bringing his FPS down a bit. Also, how is he connecting to the
internet? If he's plugged into a DSL or cable modem through a USB port and
using a USB to RJ45 adapter, this can also kill frames because you are using
the CPU to handle all the network traffic processing as well. Using the
on-board NIC and plugging into a DSL/cable modem with a network patch cable
is the best way go.
