I always light feather (trying noggenfogger first) and mana shield

finally saw myself fall (instead of seeing myself dead when the load

with the mana shield on. As my foot touched the ground, i died. I hate
Blizzard. :) I'm waiting for it to happen again, so i can try Blinking
to see it it helps.
As someone else already pointed out, it seems like your slow fall
effect ended just before you landed, and the fall speed algorithm
appears to calculate your current speed as a function of only how
long you've been falling, so you immediately fall very fast when
you come out of it.
A mage slow fall probably ends a bit too soon (lasts 30 seconds,
takes 10 seconds to teleport, so 20 seconds left of slow fall).
Priests can do it with levitate (2 minutes). I've done it
with my druid and his parachute cloak, but sometimes I also get
the load screen delay where I'm dead right away.
My priest jumped into the Un'goro Crater by the north edge of the
bugs in Tanaris, and since she was also drifting forward, I ended
levitation for a few seconds and re-cast it to land up in the
mountainous part, and she seemed to plummet pretty fast when I
stopped the first lev spell.
