Re: Rolled a priest

Well, i'm getting somewhat bored with playing my mage, so i started
buying and selling in the AH and trade a lot more. While looking for
something else, i rolled a Night Elf Priest. I just hit 14, and hope to
keep the first urge until at least 20. Although i'll enjoy leveling,
the main idea is to hit 60 already and stop not being able to do
instances because there's no in-guild healer online. (I prefer to do
all instance partying in-guild, at least at the higher levels.)

Congratulations on rolling possibly the most sought after class in WoW.

One thing i know is to use my other characters to buy and enchant
stuff. AH low-level non-blues are (relatively) very cheap, and my
enchanter can have another reason to use the low level reagents. But, i
now have some questions. I come from mainly playing a mage and a
warlock, so i'm used to straight magic damage, and doing the damage
myself. This seems not to be the case with a priest.

When leveling, you want to stack on the spirit. The more spirit the better.
For a 2nd stat go +damage&healing.

When fighting at first i just used smite over and over again. Doing
that now, however, results in low mana. So, my routine now (when
soloing) is usually smite (to draw), Shadow Word: Pain, Power Word:
Shield (usually before the first hit), and whack 'em with my mace,
recasting SWP and PWS as needed. If i'm bored i'll smite them once or
twice at the end, especially for runaways. (Though, i like the evil
thought of SWP as they run, and watch 'em dying on their way back,
while i'm already on the next mob.) This doesn't work on the casters
though, because they'll either not come close, or they heal themselves,
meaning i best smite them as fast as possible.

Get mindflay ASAP. Spirit tap should be your first 5 points (or all 4 that you
have now), then go Blackout then mindflay. Once there start exploring the disc
tree with the wand spec, the meditation and inner focus. This'll help your
leveling.

When pull with a mindblast, put on a sw:p and smite. When mindblast is up use
it. Take away the last 10-15% with your wand and shadowword pain ticking in the
background. If you wand the last 10% you'll NEVER have to drink (thanks to
spirit tap and your heavy spirit gear that you've bought). Shielding yourself
is a waste of mana. I forget if you'd have renew, but if you find your health
going low start a fight by throwing that on. Once you get enough talent points
you can also get vamperic embrace which will help. If you need to heal then use
a proper healing spell. PW:S is used for shielding AOEing mages, and in
emergencies when someone is about to die but you can't get a proper heal off.

I'm trying to figure out when to use Mind Blast and the comet on the
head thing. MB is faster, but grabs aggro. The comet is channeled. But
they are different types of damage and that because important as they
are specced or buffed. I think smite is the best default spell.

If your soloing then mindblast is your best damage spell. If your in a group
then you should be healing (assuming your in an instance). If your just
grinding with others then still use mindblast but make sure you have that Fade
spell ready.

When grouping, i'm the healer. Being my main job is PWS and heal, i
usually SWP and then nothing, unless my bars are full after PWSing
everyone, and i'll smite a bit. When soloing, if i got an add i'd throw
SWP on each mob, might as well, in a group that's no good because
(especially at low levels) the tank/damage dealer seems to work on no
more than one mob at a time.

Like I said before your job is not to PW:S unless in emergency or AOE parts. If
your healing then you shouldn't be casting SW:P unless your not stressed for
mana. If your not stressed for mana then cast whatever you want whenever you
want (not mindblast though). For me part of being a priest was to help do
damage when I can.

I have four points. I put two into Holy so i have 70% less chance of
being interrupted during a heal (though, most likely i'll be PWSed
anyway, but this will help under heavy-hitters), and the rest is
probably going into shadow so i can do more damage when soloing. I
assume i'll need to respec after 55 or something to Holy.

Like I said before, SPIRIT TAP. Any decent priest will tell you it's godly for
leveling. For 15 (or is it 20?) seconds you have 200% mana regen. If your out
of the 5 second rule when killing a monster thats 200% mana regen for 15 seconds
= no downtime at all.

Being i can heal myself food isn't as important as water. But stamina
still comes into play. Wheras my mage shunned spirit as useless, i'm
wondering what role it plays for a priest. Should most of my gear be
int/spir, and leave stamina to PWS/heals?

While leveling spirit top priority. When you get into end game (or even the
teir0 instances) you want mana/5sec gear (from Dire Maul) and +healing gear. If
you can't get that get a balance between spirit and intellect. If your party is
doing their job right you shouldn't need lots of health (mine only has 3700 raid
buffed).

And finally, after doing three myself, i'm really wondering. How many
flips can a Night Elf do in a row?

Thats like asking a paladin how many times they can bubble+hearth. Something
are better off not asked.
