So in theory, if you can buy the serial numbers used to create accounts,
you don't need to buy separate copies of the media. Which leaves me
wondering why Blizzard doesn't sell serial numbers on its website for
immediate download. It already sells boxed sets online. This would save on
transport costs when one wants to buy WoW for more than one family member
after one already has a copy.
You'd think so, wouldn't you? Maybe because people wouldn't be willing to
pay as much just to get a serial number as they do to get an entire CD
set. Or maybe there's some other reason. I assume someone in Blizzard
has already thought of it, weighed the pros and cons, and for some reason
decided it wasn't feasible.
I'll assume this has somethign to do with the distributer. They're the
ones who make the bulk of the money in the gaming industry. I am sure
an agreement was signed that the only way to get the game was the buy
the boxed set. Perhaps blizzard themselves make very few dollars off
the purchase of the game but it was a nice way to get it out?
