Ive read somewhere to 'scan daily for a week' before using auctioneer.
Does auctioneer base its recommendations
on historical scans or just the latest scan?.

It builds an average from multiple scans. I don't scan every day because
it takes around 20 minutes per scan, but the more you do it, the more
accurate it becomes. I just installed it on a new computer, so I have to
do a lot of checking. I check the auctions manually, and I also use
allakhazam when I can't get accurate data from the AH
(http://wow.allakhazam.com)

I log on with my banker and have him do the scan just before I go make
dinner. When I come back, the scan is done (and I have usually been
logged off by the system). I then place my items for auction.

Do people find using 5% undercutting on popular items (leather, bars
etc) actually sells in 24 hours or do they
drop lower?. Ive found people come after ive listed and undercut me
more, so the 'base price' drops after ive listed.
For me a couple of hundred skins/bars in my post each day would be a
bit of a nightmare.

I change the setting to 1% for undercutting, and it works fine for me. 5%
is way too much IMO. I usually sell most of my auctions the first or
second time.

I left the default, but I double-check it. The window on the right
shows all auctions for the same item type with their prices. (Wish they
would show price per item...). I scan how Auctioneer would fit, and for
items with lots of volume price myself about 1/3 from the bottom. That
is, I don't try to be the low price item, knowing there is enough
turnover that mine will probably be purchased too.

Most days I get no returns at all. Occasionally I will get half a dozen
back from a posting of 40 or 50 auctions. Overall, it works pretty well
for me, and has kept all my chars in plenty of gold for weapons, armor
and mounts.

Finally, the broker, do you guys use this?. It seemed to good to be
true, for example it came up with
'pattern: dinosaur leggings' listed at buyout 3G, insisting i could
relist for 7.5G, i just found it too hard to believe there
was 4.5G profit sitting there for 20 seconds work..do you use it only
for high volume items to avoid
spikes messing up the data ?. Do you think its 'wrong' to relist
bargain items at market price for gain?.

I don't use this. The amount of time you spend researching this stuff
could be spent questing and adventuring, but some people find it
enjoyable to play this way. To each their own.

I tried it a few times. Basically I found it worked when there were
several of the item available and one or two was way below the price of
the others. I could then buy and relist as the cheapest, but with a
narrower gap. When I tried to speculate on one-only items though, I
usually got burned.

Eventually I decided that just selling the drops/skins/minerals from
normal play provided plenty of money and I didn't really need to play a
merchant reseller game.
