At which point it would be pretty darn useless.
Not to me. The point of the bags is that they have a higher
than average capacity, and they can be placed in the bank
as well as on your person. My gnome engineer probably has
10 trinkets to carry around. Add in tools and dynamite and
I could easily fill a 20 slot bag.
I never make up any
siginificant amount of parts
I tend not to make a lot of parts ahead of time myself, but
when you're wandering around the wilderness dropping target
dummies as you grind, and picking up the drek that drops
from the dummies, you do wind up with assorted stuff that
would be nice if it was organized into a bag for you.

My priest goes through a lot of dynamite.
and I make up the required parts from raw materials (metal, stones,
and other normal things) as needed. If an engineering bag is intended only
to hold parts, I'll never bother with one. The only part I sometimes keep
in stock is thorium widgets, if it so happens that I can exactly run out my
supply of thorium and runecloth by making them.
Suit yourself. I know warlocks who don't use soul pouches
either. I think they're nuts, but it's their business.
I've got a 24 slot soul pouch on my 'lock, and it's really
useful.
The engineering bag isn't out because they ran out of time
to fiddle with it before 1.10, which is fine as far as I'm
concerned. There were already enough new feature headaches.
Then why did they include it as an auction house category? It's just
weird. *
It has all the hallmarks of something that they ran out of
time to fit in. For me it's enough to know that they've
got it on the drawing board. I only wish they had a
similar thing in place for server transfers because I'm
really looking forward to being able to move my old rogue
to my new server.
P.S. Why in hell are essences not considered enchanting items? Enchanting
bags hold dust, shards, and your rods, and that's it. They are useful
as a bank bag as is, but it seems silly that they won't hold essences
of fire or undeath.
They don't hold a lot of things. Essences are multi-purpose.
