On moving up, after i hit 11k, some numbers went funny, and i had an
odd number after a kill. Finally, i hit 11999 and my counter froze. It
would not move up without a boss kill. And, now revered, the only way
to get rep is boss kills or feathers/beads turnins.

I'm wondering how i got an odd number (not 5 or 0).

Reputation gains for various activities are capped at certain levels of
reputation. These caps are always at the end of a rep level. You can't
get Revered with Timbermaw just from trash kills, you have to kill a boss
or turn in feathers for that last point. Same with Argent Dawn, you can't
get Honored from non-elite kills, and you can't get Revered without killing
a boss or turning in stones.

Also, if i group now, do i lose feather chances? Or am i better off
farming on my own.

Well, even if it is worse, i'll probably still group, so there's less
contention over the same resources.

If you group, and someone else loots the feather, then you've "lost"
reputation, by losing that chance at an increase. You're best off grinding
solo to maximize your collection of feathers.

If you're serious about getting to Exalted with Timbermaw, the best thing
to do is to never turn in a single feather until after you've hit Revered
already. They stack to 250 so it's easier to stockpile.
