Re: Tip for newbies

Interesting, my copy of WoW only had 4 CD's, and I reinstalled after 1.9 and
there were 3 patches. One rather large one that I believe brought me to 1.9
proper, and then two very small ones that brought me to 1.9nnnn

Sorry you had the bad experience, and no I can't explain it, but perhaps the
computer gods were just mad at you for some unknown reason.

Either way, glad you are running :)

This is not really a complaint, just a heads up for the impatient: When
installing WoW, take deep breaths and relax, put on some tunes to soothe
you during this long, tedious cycle of updating and restarting the game.

Don't install this game and expect to be able to create a character unless
you have at least two hours to kill, and preferably three.

First you have to load the 5 CDs, which takes a surprisingly long time
even with a state-of-the-art drive and PC.

Then you create your account and sign in by entering your username and
password. You have to scroll to the bottom of the License agreement and
then click "I Agree" then you have to scroll to the bottom of the Terms of
Conduct and click "I Agree." (You should probably read them both at least
once.)

Next, you have to download a 184 MB update. This takes a while even with
a 4.5 Mbps connection. Then it takes a good twenty to thirty minutes to
install. Then you have to restart the game. Then you have to sign in
again by entering your username and password. You have to scroll to the
bottom of the License agreement and then click "I Agree" then you have to
scroll to the bottom of the Terms of Conduct and click "I Agree", yes, you
have to do this again even though you've already agreed to these forms.

Next, the game will download and install another update, though this one
is smaller and faster. Then you have to restart the game again. Then
you have to sign in again by entering your username and password. You
have to scroll to the bottom of the License agreement and then click "I
Agree" then you have to scroll to the bottom of the Terms of Conduct and
click "I Agree", yes, you have to do this yet again.

Next, the game will download and install yet another update. Then you
have to restart the game again. Then you have to sign in again by
entering your username and password. You have to scroll to the bottom of
the License agreement and then click "I Agree" then you have to scroll to
the bottom of the Terms of Conduct and click "I Agree" once more.

Next, the game will download and install still another update. Then you
have to restart the game again. Then you have to sign in again by
entering your username and password. You have to scroll to the bottom of
the License agreement and then click "I Agree" then you have to scroll to
the bottom of the Terms of Conduct and click "I Agree" yet again.

Repeat the above step three to five more times, I lost count after
restarting the game five times but I am sure the total number of updates
was less than ten.

It's GOOD that Blizzard keeps on top of issues by releasing these patches
and updates, though it would be nice if they would bundle them all into
ONE update so you didn't have to spend so much time logging in and
agreeing to forms you've already agreed to a bunch of times before.
