Re: even more video cards

Thanks for your recommendations. Between those, I feel more drawn to
the GeForce options; apart from being slow in WoW, I've been happy with
my onboard GeForce. Besides which, doesn't WoW itself prefer nVidia
cards?

I haven't thoroughly understood computer hardware since the days of IRQ
conflicts and DMA sharing, so I need to ask some more questions.

I found two 6600GT cards for about $180, one from XFX, another that's
nVidia branded.

Is $5 the only real difference between them? When the core video
chipset is the same, how much does the card manufacturer's name matter?
Is an XFX card better than an nVidia one?

XFX might be better for overclocking. I don't remember clearly.

I always get the drivers from nvidia.com or ati.com myself because these
are usually better than what they are shipped with.

A little more shopping, and I found a couple 6800GS cards, which, I
gather, is a current flagship of the GeForce line.

http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce7.html in SLI mode is their flagship
:-) But I bet such a system would be noisy as hell (as well as very
expensive)

These were from XFX
again ($210) and eVGA ($225). Again, is one better than the other?

And there's some severe FUD for me surrounding the specs.

It is best to ignore the FUD :-) I sometimes read something about them
in articles about new chipsets but I forget just as soon. Basically,
more pixel pipelines is better. I just try to get the most expensive
card I can afford.
