Stranglekelp is mid-level but there's nothing common about it. It only grows
in the ocean so you have to swim to get it and it's probably the single most
annoying herb to farm -- but it's also a necessary ingredient for many
utility potions that people will actually buy (water breathing). The other
thing is, all late game herbs tend to grow only in specific zones so if you
want that big payoff from Gromsblood and Ghost Mushrooms you have to go farm
them from Dire Maul or fly off to some zone where they grow.
Herbalism also has a high inventory cost because you could be stocking like
10 different herbs at a time. Overall I think Mining/Skinning has the best
pay:work ratio but Herbalism probably does outsell Skinning at endgame if
gold is really an issue for you. Taking Mining/Herbalism is also problematic
in that you can't radar both at the same time.
