The '.pub' files don't exactly resemble your average addon. And I
expected I could turn things off in the game (like the range of your
spells being indicated by a color). And I expected to be able to edit
the game addons myself if I wanted too.

I am not sure what 'completely transparent' means. Sounds like something
I learned in Software Engineering (opague). To me it means that the
addon would look like a normal addon and not like a small file.

I usually advice them to use ZoneAlarm and Avast or AVG (which is harder
to use). Yet they frequently fail to update their
virusdefinitions/engine or patch their system, even though Windows XP
SP2 complains about it with their red shield in the taskbar (which I see
when I visit them)

Funniest thing is when my sister called about a computer problem and I
tried to talk her through the kerio firewall I installed, which her
boyfriend turned out to have turned off because it kept having popups
when he used bittorrent <grin>

I use Kerio and no realtime scanning myself most of the time (I now have
Avast installed because the .pub files freaked me out)

Just a gut feeling (which I still have). And I am helping them solve it
in this thread, ain't I?

I remembered it when I read Rexxx' post. It is just (much) different
than I expected it to me. I would have liked to be able to turn off
parts of the blizzard UI, just to see what it does.

I don't really understand why they did it in the first place. Maybe
patch 1.9 will clear things up for me.
