It is written in C++, which is object oriented, and multiple objects can
run in different threads AFAIK. I am not a wiz with OO languages
however, so I might be wrong.
In any case, the OS could run in a different thread as WoW.

But I have almost the same system as the OP, with the exception of a
Socket A AMD Athlon XP 2600. I upgraded from 512MB to 1GB two weeks ago
(also from 333mhz 3CAS to 2x 400mhz 2.5CAS Dual Channel), and the game
is not much faster. It just loads faster and less frequent. I don't
think memory is such a biggy.
That said, I have set the graphical settings to max (on my ATI Radeon
9700). Except AA of course because I play at 1280x1024 and don't see the
pixels anyhow. That pretty much rules out his 9700 pro being the bottleneck.
Maybe he has set the wrong CPU clockspeed in the bios, or uses a Sempron
(which noone should ever buy! Just like the Intel Celeron). But his
memory and GPU is up to par IMO.
