[Q] Levels of PvP opponents?

Now that I'm wandering around in contested areas pretty much full time (e.g,
Arathi, Stranglethorn), I've come across (and been killed by) Horde players
(I'm of the Alliance). I noticed that their level is not displayed to me.

Is this a general rule (players of the opposite faction have their levels
hidden) or am I missing something in the iconic display of the player?
