Urbin heeft ons zojuist aangekondigd :
As I am 300/300 for first aid, cooking and herbalism I decided to push alchemy for the last missing points (was 285). The main ingredient for the yellow/orange spells is "Mounter silver willow" (sorry, playing on a german server :-). As I have never yet seen it anywhere and didn't have the patience to go look for it I had a quick look at the AH. The common price was 2g buyout per piece (!) but there was a stack of 14 without buyout with a bid around 6g.
Usually I don't even bother bidding as Murphy makes sure that someone else will outbid me, so I am a purely buyout AH customer. However, as I didn't want to push to 300 that urgently I didn't want to buy 7 for 14g (as there were only 7 single pieces at 2g each) so I bid for the stack of 14. Considering it was on 'short' (<30mins) I figured I would easily be able to stay around and make sure I out-out-bid anyone else.
So I bid, after a while I am outbidden, bid higher, on-and-on it goes for roughly 20mins when the price has risen to just over 11g (still reasonable compared to the single pieces). I figure that this will all end in a couple of minutes, as the auction has been at 'short' ever since I saw it nearly 25mins ago. Thenn all of a sudden I get a message stating that I have again been outbidden and the display on the AH window changed from 'short' to 'medium'.
At this point I gave up in disgust and bought the 7 for 14g pushing alchemy to 289, delaying the 300/300 for another day.
My big question is: How can an auction go from 'short' to 'medium'? Did it expire and the guy started a new one with the same stack size (14) at slightly over what the previous one fetched near-simultaneously? Unlikely I think. Is there an exploit? Is there a mechanism I don't yet understand?
I hope someone can enlighten me.
If a bid is placed within the last 5 minutes of the original auction end time, the original auction end time will be extended by one hour. The seller and bidders are notified of this time extension via email. Further bidding within the last 5 minutes of the closing time will cause an additional 10 minute extension of the auction. This will continue for all additional “last minute” bids.
Greets,
Dr. Nonookee
