could someone recommend what equipment might be good for me to
carry. i have a 2 handed large mace that i bought from Stormwind, i
tend to do about 30-40 hp damage with that and on a big hit maybe close
to 100.


How much damage you do per hit is quite irrelevant. What matters is
DPS (damage per second). Because a weapon that deals 40 damage every
3 seconds (13.33 DPS) is a lot worse than one that deals 30 damage
every 1.5 seconds (20 DPS).
You can check the weapons DPS rating when you move your mouse over
it.

is there something better i should be carrying, just get the
feeling i should be doing more damage or taking down some of the level
9-10 mobs faster.

i'm a noob, not just to Wow but also this is my
first online game, so if possible could you also let me know where i
can get the equipment.


You can get weapons and other equipment in three ways:
- Do quests, which reward you with a better weapon
- Buy weapons from vendors (available in all cities and most towns)
- Buy weapons from other players, especially via the auction house,
 which is located in one of the major cities, Orgrimmar for horde
 and Ironforge for alliance (if I'm wrong, correct me please)

There are not many quests in your level range which reward you with
good weapons (at least not on horde side, maybe I'm wrong). Weapons
from vendors are usually more expensive than weapons from other
players. At your level, you should find some decent green weapons
in your auction house. Compare them to your current weapon. If
they're better (DPS and stat boosts like +3 stamina), and you can
spare the money, buy one.
