While I agree with the merits of the lawsuit, I take issue with the
statement that what GameStop is accused of doing "is analogous to
selling a used book to customers without telling them that there are
chapters missing." The bonus DLC in a game is more like a chapter that
isn't necessary to the plot of the book (the book is 100% without it)
but thrown in there as some sort of side chapter bonus for readers to
enjoy.
I don't shop GS and generally think they're pretty scummy, but there's
no way this is going anywhere. Perhaps they'll settle for some small
amount just to make it go away.
I also don't buy games that have these one-time codes, and I've spent
all of $20 or so on DLC this generation--Halo maps, cause you pretty
much are excluded if you don't buy them, and the first Geometry Wars.
My position remains: If I can't sell, trade, lend or give it away,
I'm very nearly never going to buy it. I've made exceptions for some
Steam sales, cause the prices are so low that I can concede not truly
owning it.
