(NY Times) - The Taliban try to kill American troops every day.
That is reality. Can you handle it in a video game?
On Oct. 12 Electronic Arts, one of the world’s biggest gameset
publishers, is set to release a first-person combat title called
"Medal of Honor" (Amazon:http://xrl.us/MedalHonor). Developed
with advice from elite American special forces, the new game is
during Operation Anaconda, part of the Western war in Afghanistan
that followed the Sept. 11 attacks.
So far, so conventional. But in Medal of Honor’s onlinemultiplayer
mode, in which teams of players battle over the Internet, one sidein
in each match will be the Americans and the other side will play
the role of Taliban fighters. And that — at least to politicians
Britain, Canada and New Zealand among others — is a problem...

ABC News
Many service members looking forward to the October release of the
new "Medal of Honor" video game will have to buy it off-base after
most military branches decided not to stock the controversial game,
which includes depictions of violence toward U.S. troops in
Afghanistan.
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service -- joined by the Coast Guard
Community Services Command -- was the first to announce this week
that it would not allow sales of the game, produced by video game
giant Entertainment Arts, or EA, on any of its 181 exchanges in the
United States and abroad, or its online site.
A statement issued by Army & Air Force Exchange Service Commander
Maj. Gen. Bruce Casella said the decision was made "out of respect
to those we serve."

This is a situation that is unfortunate in the gaming world . We
( The United States ) are involved in a war on terrorism that began
after 911 . Even Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 was not as local or
as definitive as this action . However , the world basically was at
war with practially all the League Of Nations nations participating .
At that time the United States was not the predominate world power .
England was at the last stages of it's dominance and needed the U.S.
to help . Pearl Harbor was a godsend to Churchill and Enland . Thus
the legendary might and industrial power of the U.S. was born . If it
was not for Einstein the U.S. would have not been informed about the
destructive possibilities of the Atomic Bomb . This was by far the
greatest power that ever befelled on any country or any single human
being .President Truman had this God Awful decision to use this
destructive force . Nobody in history has ever had to make a decision
that welded such a destructive power . This leads to Elecronic Arts
latest game . Should Medal of Honor be chastised for allowing a player
to side with the Talibon in playing this game . I've played games
such as Iron Storm which let you play as Japanese ,German or ,
American . It's a lot of fun to play and see what could have happend
if you controlled the country or contries in WW2 Sure you play the
single player game as an American soldier . Yes you can play as the
taliban on the internet . For what . Purely intertainment . Of
course . I have played as the Germans during Iron Storm in WW2 .What a
lot of fun . It is something you and your mind develope in the outcome
of your game . If you win you win . If you lose you lose . I've also
done the Japanese . By the way I am an American Veteran who was in the
Marine Corps . I served my country in time of war . I love my
country . But Medal of Honor is not a dishonor to my country . It is
only a game
.
