Employees at the Best Buy near my office were putting the systems up
on the shelves when I visited during my lunch break. Interestingly
enough, despite the documented difference in size between the two
versions, the boxes are almost identical in dimensions with the "S"
box about a half inch shorter along one dimension.
And I would've have purchased one because I just love wasting money
like that. What killed it for me is the standard hard drive wont work
with it. That was an instant fail. Not only that but I read it's only
has a 1 year warranty. Besides I think MS will drop the price when
Kinect is released. I'm definitely not getting that POS but maybe I
will pick up a couple S units then at the reduced price. By then MS
will probably have a 3 year warranty again once a few fail. ;)
LOL! I can picture Jonah's veins in his forehead about to burst when
he reads that^
So the current hard drives won't work with it? What a f@#$@#ng dick
move. What about all of us who bought external hard drives because
the default Premium 360 had a small HD? Can we even use the transfer
cable to put our current drive contents on a 360 S?
If this is the case, Microsoft knows less about pleasing customers
than I ever suspected. I'm sure Jonah will try to spin it in favor of
MS, being the lackey he is.
the transfer cable will work. if you don't have one yet, you apparently
need the MS version as the third party ones don't work.
while the hard-drives aren't themselves interchangeable, you can transfer
all of your licenses via an MS website and your savegames with a thumb drive
if you don't want to go the transfer cable route.
not really a big deal, imho.
I can see where it would be annoying to have to reinstall everything
if you filled a 120GB with game images... :-\
Still, I'm willing to do that if it means I can sell my transfer cable
for a few bucks on eBay...
