Since it is free, I won't complain if they are not that great.. Also,
there's a new weapon available as well, the Cerberus Arc Projector and three
new outfits for Jack, Thane and Garrus (outfits supposedly included with the
Firewalker download, but I noticed they cost 160 points on the Bioware
site?).

The latest piece of Mass Effect 2 DLC has been released and it's a good 'un.
"Firewalker is the most substantial pack to date"
The Firewalker download - which is free with the Cerberus Network - contains
the Firewalker flying tank along with new five missions that utalise the
tank. It also comes with new outfits for Garrus, Thane and Jack.
Firewalker is the most substantial pack to date and paves the way for
BioWare's first premium ME2 DLC, the Kasumi's Stolen Memory pack, which
launches 6 April, priced 560 MS Points.
Dammit, I've got Just Cause 2 eating up my gaming time this week-
I saw that in Best Buy on Tuesday and immediately thought, "I bet Nick
is playing that right now."
Ha, glad to see I made an impression! I'll throw out a couple of
stats- 14+ hours, 7% complete. Granted, a few of those hours were
engaged in what I call "necessary tedium"- flying around the map so
that I could ID as many settlement areas as possible as extraction
points. And I don't know if it counted any extended pause periods for
eating, and checking to see if I had run into bugs or how much I'd
have to do before the extraction option was opened (I thought one of
the faction stronghold options had disappeared as a result of a bug,
but it just turned out the marker was on the ocean, and was a shade of
blue). Nonetheless, despite a few rough edges and questionable
production values, so far, so good.
looks like I'll have to make some spare time to get this.
I just got back into Brutal Legend in my quest to finish games so I
can remove them from my hard drive.
Plus, I need to continue with God of War III, start Uncharted 2, and
actually finish Grand Theft Auto IV on the PS3...
Yeah, I've got to finish off GoW 3. Maybe this weekend, or the next
couple of weeks.
I'm a bit afraid that the game won't be able to hold my interest
through completion. I've been seeing a lot of posts from people saying
they got bored of the game early on because it was just "fight, climb,
jump, wash, rinse, repeat." Pretty, no doubt, but still kind of
repetitive.
I'm not sure why, as it's not really more repetitive than other open
world games. If anything, the fact that for once, the controls
encourage fast, non-stop action should make it more appealing to
people. I've got GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, and GTA IV, and the
issue they all have is that most of the chase/chaotic action sequences
move sort of clunky, and play out similarly. You're stuck on ground
level most of the time. You run around a bit, shoot, get in a car,
drive a little, get out of the car, run and shoot some more, and maybe
hop in a boat or heli if you can find one. Saints Row isn't much
different either. In this game, if you've got the adrenaline going,
and you're thinking on your feet, the everyday "random encounters"
with the military can play out in all sorts of ways, and at a much
quicker pace. Mobility is the name of the game. As for the
"official" missions, I've only done a few, but given that most open
world games rely on the same types of missions (trail someone/escort
an NPC/kill a certain enemy, etc. etc.), I'm not sure how people who
like open world games in general would find this one worse. That
being said, there are a few balance issues that people have found,
namely a general shortage of ammo, and a questionable black market
system that drains your money far too quickly. The controls work
pretty well 80-90% of the time, but that 10-20% when your grapple
doesn't latch onto the window of a skyscraper and pull you in like it
should can be frustrating. Finally, the game really focuses on fans
of military action and arcade style play, so you're not going to get
San Andreas levels of depth in terms of a world filled with diverse
activities.
I have a feeling you thought I was talking about Just Cause 2 when in
fact I was talking about God of War III.
:-)
I'm going to give it another shot sooner than later, but I think I
want to get through some of my older games first.
Fair enough. I have the same problem. I'm hoping that after the end
of May, there'll be a long enough drought to catch up on mine.
I thought
it was called the Hammerhead tank, though?

Well that was a big whoops on my part!
God of War 3 is, well, a God of War game. There's not going to be
wide-ranging "depth", but what it does, it does well. For me, once
the series got going with the second game, the God of War franchise
ended up being akin to this generation's Castlevania, to some degree.
Ranged melee combat, and a fair amount of influence in the genre. I
do think the God of War games hold up to at least a second
playthrough.
The odd thing for me is that while I had no problem going through the
God of War PSP game - in fact, I was quite addicted to it for the week
I was playing - I'm not experiencing the same interest in the console
version.
God of War III has awesome graphics, plenty of gory violence, great
direction, etc. but something just feels repetitive to me.
I won't say that I'm bored of the gameplay already, but I've found it
difficult to motivate myself to start playing again. I'm perfectly
content finishing up Brutal Legend, which is also repetitive in some
aspects.- Hide quoted text -

Did you play God of War and God of War 2? Part of the experience of
God of War 3 depends on being invested in the prior 2 "main" games of
the series, and wanting to know how the trilogy plays out in the end.
I played them briefly when I picked them up for my PS2. I played on my
nephew's PS2 since I still haven't opened my own.
I'm really waiting for a price drop on the God of War Collection to
experience them - I figure why play them in lower resolution when I
can play them in higher resolution?
It's not the story that's preventing me from getting back into it.
It's just the repetitive gameplay. There really doesn't seem to be
much aside from fight, jump, swing, mash the button really fast to
open something, fight, jump, swing, mash the button really fast, etc.
I'll definitely go back to it even if I have to force myself to, but
at the moment I'm much more interested in finishing Brutal Legend,
finishing GTA IV and playing Uncharted 2.
