I'll agree with that, but honestly, the miscalculated leap-year bug should
have never gotten released. ?

And that's Sony's fault? You know that Jonah's trying to position it
as such...

Yeah, I didn't know at that time that the bug was in a chip Sony was
buying from another company.  Still doesn't let THAT company off the hook
though.

And if this was the same chip that Microsoft used in their Zune, then why
wasn't Sony informed of the problem by the company?  Or did Sony think the
problem wasn't severe enough to justify a fix?

Based on how Sony handled it, they weren't aware of the problem, nor did
they know how to fix it.  It was just good luck that the issue fixed
itself when the clock rolled over to March 2nd 2010, causing affected
units to think it was March 1st, 2010.  At least this was a valid
date/state that allowed these units to be reset to the proper date when
they logged into PSN.

Further, I'd say that much worse was Microsoft releasing the Xbox 360
in its initial design state that led to RROD which was FAR worse a
problem...

I agree.

However, I still think Sony's handling of the issue was sloppy - and
sloppy is still sloppy.  Sure, this didn't cause any long term problems
but I think that's only because Sony got lucky.  I can't think of a
company I've worked at where Sony's handling of this issue would have ever
been considered acceptable - especially for a Japanese company.

Furthermore, Sony knew about this problem since the Zune uses the same
chip yet didn't release a patch earlier.

Well they have 2 or 4 years to fix it.

Somehow, I don't think it will take anywhere near that time to fix...

One would hope :)  Hopefully Sony's "fix" isn't just "Do not use your PS3
on Mar 1 2012."

Wouldn't that be okay? 2012 is a leap year...
