Wow. It's staggering how much money Sony has lost with the PS3 this
generation.
Yet they are smoking sales over the past three months.
True, but they aren't moving software with those "smoking" hardware
sales which means even less revenue for Sony.
It's only a matter of time before the sales of PlayStation 3 games
start increasing by more significant amounts.
They might not turn a profit overall for a while but regardless of how
Xbox 360 fanboys try to spin it, selling more hardware and selling
more games than before *is* a good thing.
As stated before, a lot of people aren't going to necessarily buy a
lot of games at the same time they get a new system in this economy.
Software sales will be more spread out over the months. At this
point, the PS3 finally has a fairly solid lineup of exclusives, and
still has God of War 3 coming out in March. While none of the
exclusives have the hype and profile of franchises like Halo, GTA, and
the such, I think there's finally a solid bedrock present of varied
exclusives. Well, except maybe for RPGs, ironically enough. It'll
be interesting to see whether Final Fantasy XIII sells more on the PS3
or 360, as a lot of people not following the game may still associate
it with Sony exclusively.
I think Final Fantasy will sell better on the PlayStation 3 than on
the Xbox 360 overall but will sell better on the Xbox 360 than the
PlayStation 3 in North America. While a lot can change in the next
year, there are almost twice as many Xbox 360s than PlayStation 3s in
North America right now so there's a much larger pool of gamers who
could be interested in the game.
