Here's what I find interesting, amongst all this bickering:
Console sales:
? PS3 491,800
? Wii 462,800
? Xbox 360 352,600
? PS2 146,000
OK, so the PS3 is the top seller, and on the whole, Wii sales are down
roughly 30%, but Wii is still selling, at as of last month, it was only
behind PS3 by 30,000 units. What's more, I hear from a couple places
that a tangible portion of PS3 sales are replacements for dead PS3s,
whereas I hear very little of replacement console sales for the Wii. By
my reckoning, the Wii is still the top overall platform of this
generation, and is still very solid in these platform wars, chugging
along quiet and successful.
I would very much like to see a active unit count, considering all three
top players have had varying levels of dead console replacements. Who
has had the most replacements, and in these monthly reports, what
percentage is replacement units and what percentage is first time buyer
units? That would be far more telling.
Also quite telling is how the now vintage PS2 has had almost half as
many unit sales as the x360. And again, what percentage of those sales
are first time buyers?
