After my initial 1/2 way mark in the campaign and not exactly writing
a good review my opinion has flip flopped, I guess once I settled into
the nighttime missions and the flashback missions the game really took
off.
I think ODST's campaign is only second to the original game maybe a
little better.
They campaign ties itself together in a nice little knot .
Glad I only paid $40 after all was said and done .
As usual you gotta watch the end of credits for the extra goodness ,
but I gotta say I really enjoyed the entire story. In a way I like the
ODST characters better than Master Chief's part in the history of
Halo.
I found Legendary to be not so hard for some reason , I think its
because by now everyone is familiar with how HALO enemy AI works ,
they're basically carbon copies of what you've played before in HALO3.
But after getting over the old-gen graphics and reminding myself
perhaps this would be an EPIC XBLA game, yet they clearly overcharged
for the expansion, ODST's campaign is pretty darn good and worth a
visit, if you can stomach the dreary 1/4 of the game , but by then
hopefully you get it .
If you run from beacon to beacon and don't care for searching audio
files you can expect a 4 -5 hour ride , but I squeezed 12 out of
legendary solo trying to find all the audio logs which in themselves
have a nice side story.
All in ODST campaign is probably my fav of the halo series
I think ODST serves well playing solo on the hardest difficult you can
stomach , playing with someone else you lose a bit of the lone warrior
looking for lost compadres .
I can't bring myself to pay $60 for that short of a campaign, which
pretty much centers around one city and its surroundings, especially
when Bungie suddenly changed their tune about this game not being a
full retail price game. It just vexes me. Then again, who am I to
talk- I'll let myself get taken in by double-dipping for things I'm a
big fan of- hell, I triple-dipped on the first Ninja Gaiden (NG, NG
Black, NG Sigma). I really, really hope Halo: Reach isn't a cash-in.- Hide quoted text -
I buy a lot of my games used now (and not at those ridiculous Gamestop
prices, I'm talking Ebay/Amazon). I've saved a fortune over the last
few years just by waiting a fews months to pick up the hot titles of
the moment used at half price or less. Don't even get me started on
what you can save if you buy last year's almost identitcal version of
a EA sports game instead of the latest version (an EA sports title
typically drops from $60 new to $10 used in one year).
And this strikes me as one of those titles I'll probably pick it up in
a fews months when it's down in the $30 range. Though Halo 3 was one
of the only two titles I bought new in recent years (the other being
Mass Effect), ODST doesn't seem worth $60 to me.
Needless to say, I dred the day when console software companies go to
download-only or find some other way to kill the used market (the way
PC software companies have).- Hide quoted text -

Yeah, for me, used games are a must for picking up the titles that I
wouldn't normally think of dropping full price on for whatever reason,
such as Saints Row 2, but might still be worth checking out.
That's what Toys R Us's annual Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale is for! ;-)
As it
stands, from what I've read, it looks like Operation Flashpoint 2 may
have dropped to that level (only 11 missions?????).- Hide quoted text -

That's the one from Oct.11 until October 17????? Thanks for the
reminder- I totally forgot about it. Now the question is which
games.........
Maybe Fallout 3 GOTY, Uncharted 2, and then the 3rd free one.....and
then trade in the old FO3 towards Ratchet & Clank? Ach, if only Forza
3 was out during that time period, it would make the 3rd game decision
that much easier!
