I have no problems with games on UMD. If anything, the unique,
proprietary media system makes it just a bit harder to pirate the games.
Look at the Game Cube, for instance.
Movies on UMD, on the other hand, was a stupid idea since they were
charging as much (or more) than the DVD, and you could rip your DVD onto a
memory stick for the PSP to play without having to drain your batteries so
badly from the UMD drive.
I'm also not so sure about the PSP Go's move to an entirely download only
library. Sure, for iPhone type games it makes sense. But is anyone
really going to want to download all 1 or 2GB of Final Fantasy Disidia,
for instance? That seems a bit much if you ask me - especially since
you're not getting a discount at all.
Yeah, if there's no discount I see no reason not to expect a hard copy
for my money. The only way I think we'll see price drops is if they
ditch the retail box altogether and just go download only. I mean the
consumer already has to have internet access to get the game, so why
is there a need for an empty box with only a game manual inside? If
they really want to axe the UMDs then at least go all the way through
with it and pass the savings onto the consumers at the same time.
I mean we're going to need the extra cash for memory sitcks anyways. :(
