Installed base is less important than you'd think. Both machines have
bases in the tens of millions, if it were significant then both games
would be selling multiple millions of copies. The fact that both games
sold less than 500,000 copies at a time of year when there isn't a lot
else going on says a lot. 96% of American PS3 and 360 owners bought
NEITHER of them.

Install base does mean something and it funny how you generalize both systems having been sold in the 10s of millions. But you neglect to say that the PS3 is getting on having 10m less sold than the 360.. If the 360 were in the install position that the PS3 is now, you'd be crowing over sold to install base ratio. The PS3 is about less than 70% of the install base of the 360, yet the sales of the games in question are nearly identical in numbers.
