I'm anxious to see how the Xbox Live integration will work. Wireless
playback of music and videos on your XBox off your Zune would be
sweet.
It seems kind of pointless to have a device that can play music and
videos from your Xbox 360 wirelessly if it doesn't have an "always on"
connection like the iPhone.
For example, this feature would be 100% useless to me while I'm
commuting to work because there is no wi-fi service in the subways.
It would also be useless on a road trip since, again, you wouldn't
have wi-fi service.
Basically, I'd be able to play music in Starbucks and McDonald's...
and only after I paid $10 to rent their service.
Obviously, you can still store your favorite music and videos on the
device itself, but then that again makes the whole "I can stream it
from my console when I happen to be near a wi-fi connection and decide
to leave my console on 24/7" feature pointless.
I'm in the market for a new PMP device and want to avoid the
Touch like the swine flu. So far Sony's NX1000 with WiFi and OLED
screen has been at the top of my list, but a Zune with OLED and Xbox
Live integration may steal the show. Especially if Sony still
requires some proprietary software (like Sonicstage) to transfer music/
videos and MS is still looking to steal Apple marketshare by being
competitive on price. Both 32GB Touch and NX1000 are around $400
which is way too much when my 5 year old mp3 player still plays like a
champ.
