You never saw the director's cut, huh? The film released in theaters was not
the film Fincher wanted.
I had the set that showed as close to a directors cut as there was and
its still a truly awful film that spits in the face of the film that
came before it.
There was a period of about a year where my sister and I watched
Aliens at least once every day (and sometimes we'd watch our favorite
parts a couple more times). We had the entire movie memorized.
Aliens is easily in my top ten favorite movies of all time. The people
behind Alien 3 did to the Aliens franchise what George Lucas did to
the Indiana Jones franchise with the fourth movie.
Yeah look at the year Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) came out !!
Blows my frikken mind , I watched Aliens until the VHS tape exploded.
I would like to watch it again in Blu-Ray or HD format. Haven't seen
it yet in HD. Aliens holds it weight and even better than many modern
movies of today. It's one of those rare perfect movies. I forgot the
first Alien came out that long ago.
It's rare that a sequel surpasses the original movie, but Aliens did
just that... and did it with a relatively new director who had a very
different style from Ridley Scott using a very different genre (action/
military instead of horror).
It's strange how differently people see things. Aliens frustrated the
hell out of me. All I could see was a bunch of 'so called' elite troops
behaving like they didn't have a clue, with Ripley having to take
control of the situation.
That's exactly what you were supposed to see. The beauty of the
filmmaking behind the film is the artistic correllary to the Vietnam
War. Cameron was trying to parallel that conflict with a bunch of
technologically superior arrogant soldiers who thought that their
superiority would automatically guarantee them victory over "inferior"
opponents but end up getting overwhelmed by a larger force who has the
home turf advantage and doesn't play by whatever imaginary rules the
marines created.
Ok, I'll give it another look sometime soon. Coming from the UK, the
Vietnam conflict has less relevance to myself. Although, hadn't it been
long over by 1986? Would be difficult to associate Vietnam with Aliens
without having it pointed out.
