I see what you're saying, and it's true Windows and other software can
cause blue screens and cause hardware to run slow (or not work at all)
if it's not setup right. But how often does software actually cause
mechanical hardware failures, namely the RROD issue?

I think it's more the fault of the 360 hardware not the game. When a
popular game comes out it's followed by an increase in RROD due to
people just playing their 360 more for extended periods of time. My
understanding is the RROD is caused by faulty soldering and
overheating due to the location/design of the GPU. The only way a
game could contribute to RROD (at least the type of RROD that causes
the machine to no longer function and have to be replaced) is if it
was extremely GPU intensive or perhaps did excessive thrashing of the
HDD to cause heat buildup. But honestly I don't think Fable 2 was any
more demanding than other games like GOW. My first 360 hardware
failure was not while playing fable 2 it was after a long session of
playing Forza 2. It worked fine after that for a while but then I got
GTA IV and it failed completely after a few hours making me think at
the time (and many others) that GTA was causing RROD but it was
probably more a cumulative problem not due to one game causing it.
