You read that far? What about his initial comment about how FFVII
utilized the PS1 to its "full potential"?

I will say this, in agreement with your Japanese PS3 sales hitting 3m,
which
is really weak considering how big the Playstation brand has been there
historically. I think FFXIII will help sell quite a few PS3s in Japan. I
doubt it will have much of an impact outside of it. I just hope it get
released, at least, with some reasonable time before the next gen console
comes out. I, for one, am looking forward to the game.

FFXIII had better be the huge block buster hit that Square-Enix and Sony
hope it will be, and sell a lot of PS3's.

If FFXIII hits shelves in Japan this year, we'll probably see it in the US
sometime next fall, with Europe having to wait another 4-6 months as
usual. That should give everyone at least a year or so before the
next-gen consoles start to land...

Do you mean hit US shelves this fall, as in 2009, or 2010?

I believe he meant Fall 2010. I agree with you that it seems too late.
Assuming no more delays, I would expect the Japanese version out this
Fall and the U.S. version next Spring as opposed to next Fall.

I don't see this
coming out this late in Japan. I also wouldn't think it would take another
year for it to hit the US. IF it doesn't come out until Fall 2010, hell that
is just around the corner from the next gen console release. I am thinking
it will be released in Japan by October this year, and then here in the US
beginning early next year, like January or February of 2010.

I would expect it mid-Spring earliest. Square stated a while back that
they wouldn't start localization of the game until after the Japanese
release.

It's too bad Sony didn't manage to keep FFXIII a global PS3 exclusive.
Having it come out on the 360 in the US and Europe is going to really hurt
Sony in the long run.

I honestly don't think this will hurt Sony. Anyone who is a FF fan that has
a PS3 will buy it anyway and sales will easily be bigger on the PS3 version
than the 360 since the game has been historically a PS brand, even if the
360 still has an 8m+ installed ratio advantage.

It will most certainly hurt Sony. If you're a Final Fantasy fan that
already has a Playstation 3, it's a no-brainer to get the PS3 version.
If you don't have a PS3, there's no reason to assume that you would
automatically buy a PS3 since, like you pointed out, the 360 is in a
much better position right now. With very few carryover exclusives
from the previous generation, a pure gamer (as opposed to someone
who's also interested in Blu-Ray) would be more likely to purchase an
Xbox 360 if they have the option to get the game on that system.

Look at RE5, since its
release, both have sold very well on both consoles, but the PS3 has sold
well over 200K more than the 360 version.

This could mean any number of things. Maybe more Resident Evil fans
own Xbox 360s than Playstation 3s. With all the complaints about the
controls not being "shooter" enough, I would imagine a decent
percentage of Xbox 360 owners, who are used to fast-paced FPS/TPS
games this generation, may have simply been turned off by their
experience with the demo.

Also consider that you're talking about the effect of the brand
traditionally being on the Playstation platform and even with that
tradition, *only* 200k more of the PS3 version sold through.

It's also tough to look at it as being a "Playstation" game since the
series proper shifted to the GameCube in the previous generation. A
PS2 port did come out about a year or so later, but it was on the
GameCube first and Capcom made it very clear that they were targeting
Nintendo's system originally (until sales of the hardware showed them
that it wasn't financially sound to be exclusive to the Cube).

That's considering there is 8.5m
more 360 in the world than PS3s. But the RE series has been a primarily PS &
Nintendo brand. But none of the series ever came out on the og Xbox, until
RE5 hit the 360.

None of a few franchises had never been on the Xbox platform until
this generation. Guitar Hero, Virtua Fighter and Devil May Cry were
all non-existent on Microsoft's platform last generation. There were
no Square Enix games on an Xbox platform prior to this generation and
now there are 4 (more than on the Playstation 3) with 2 more on the
way.

The only logical way to look at the situation is that *even though*
the Resident Evil franchise had never appeared on an Xbox platform
before, it still managed to sell almost as many (87%) as the
Playstation 3 version which had the advantage of brand association
(which in actuality probably isn't so much of an advantage anymore).

The other thing to consider is that Final Fantasy XIII is an RPG and
there are way more RPG fans with Xbox 360s these days as evidenced by
the much higher sales (and much greater selection) of games in that
genre on the Xbox 360.

FFXIII being on the 360 will most certainly hurt Sony.
