Having displayed streaks of blue while playing Tomb Raider over the
last few days, I knew that my 5th 360 (now out-of-warranty) was near
it's end. Finally yesterday morning, I turned it on and the familiar
load sound could be heard but no video output. Checked cable,
connections, etc, but we all know to well what the problem is. Tried
the towel trick, no luck. It is now on my workbench, in pieces, where
I will try to affect repair with screws, washers, and heat-sink
compound. Will keep you posted...

Poor you. I'm still on my 2nd since my launch. It's been nice and
healthy since early 2006.

Well, happily, I was able to make a repair without too much difficulty
(and save some $$$ to boot).. It seems the problem was too much
heatsink compound being used on both the video and cpu chips. When
they heated up, the compound became liquid and flowed over some of the
other ICs under the heatsink. I guess it was now that the compound
shortcircuited an IC and caused the 'no video output' problem. For
posterity, I uploaded the end of my repair on youtube. (p.s. I had
'dielectric gel' on the brain .. I mean't heatsink compound..)
