Despite all the arm-chair criticism of the live action Resident Evil
movies, they have been very big money makers. Resident Evil 1 had a
budget of $35 million and a world-wide theatrical gross of $103
million, RE2: Apocalypse had a budget of $50 million and a world-wide
theatrical gross of $129 million and RE2: Extinction had a budget of
$45 million with a world-wide theatrical gross of $146 million with
DVD sales of $36 million so far. The series is easily bringing in 2 to
3 times what it costs to produce, especially after DVD sales. There is
a Resident Evil 4 on the way, needless to say.
I rented Resident Evil Degeneration Blu-ray through Netflix. There
might be too many problems with it to be a huge seller but it wasn't
all that bad for a 3D animation movie. It was kind of like one long
cutscene for a videogame. Some pundits are saying the graphics weren't
any better than Resident Evil 5 but there were a lot of areas which in-
game graphics have yet to achieve. There were a lot of dangling plot
lines closed up by the movie, like the origins of the G and T virus,
the aftermath of the nuking of Raccoon City, the spreading of the T-
virus around the planet, that there is an antidote for the T-virus,
how Umbrella Corporation has survived as WilPharma (probably only a
front company), how Umbrella tried to monopolize the T-virus antidote
and that G-virus is the real problem with the ending indicating it
going out of control with more than just slow moving human zombies as
the result.
Considering the plot and storyline though, it could very well be a
prequel for Resident Evil 6 and what it will look like on the PS3 as
in-game graphics.

I didn't know any Resident Evil fans who had any confidence in this.
film project. I still can't fathom why they can't just make a live
action movie based more on the Resident Evil storyline. The movies by
PWSA have been utter garbage.
