Picked up Iron Man on Blu-Ray today, got home, popped it in the playerFunny...when I updated with 2.43, it took literally about 5 minutes.
and get this lovely circular blue glowing thing (presumably Stark's
chest power-source thing) and... nothing else. PS3 is unresponsive to
the controls, no movie, no menu, no nothing.
So I hop online to see if there's a system update I need... sure
enough, 2.43 dropped on the 17th and I start the download. 6% in I get
a "server cannot be reached" error and am disconnected.
So I re-confirm my network and internet settings and resume the
download. It's just now at 25% done, after which (based on the other
firmware downloads I've done) I'll have to install the update and re-
boot.
Remember when watching a movie was as simple as popping in a disc and
watching the damn movie? Yeah... looks like Blu-Ray fucks that up
too... I googled and found lots of other people are having trouble
too. One star reviews are hitting Amazon for the same reason.
Brilliant guys... just brilliant. "Blue Ring of Death"

(Woo! 46% done on the firmware download...)
Maybe it's your connection that needs to be shotgunned....
to create IP conflicts with my router and generally have a hard time
connecting to it even with the conflicting devices switched off. Second
time around (after a HDD upgrade) I downloaded the firmware onto my PC
and stuck it on a USB pen drive.
When I tried getting the Uncharted trophies update my PS3 had so
muchtrouble getting all of the whopping 16MB file that I got pissed off
with it and ended up running a 15m ethernet cable through my house.
Eventually I dusted off an old Linksys router and installed the Tomato
firmware on it and now everything works just fine. PSN store is usually
slower than XBLM though.
When I'm on XBLA, downloads are generally blazing fast. Unfortunately,
I can't connect to Live half the time because my Xbox 360 seems to
have a lot of problems communicating with my router. I know it's not
my router because I can hook the PS3, a desktop and 2 laptops to the
connection and be on the Internet in seconds.
These things are just weird. Long story ahead:
I started with a WRT54G v2. My laptop worked perfectly but my Xbox and
later my X360 would give me a moderate NAT, even with wired connections.
My DS and wi-fi enabled cellphone worked just great. One day I randomly
decide to update the firmware (which hadn't occurred to me in two years)
and this gives me an open NAT on the X360 and everything still worked..
However changing the firmware also altered the way the router is reset
following drops in my cable service, leading me to falsely believe my
router is broken at some point.
I go for another WRT54G, this time the v7 (not aware these are
apparently garbage). Everything works fine until I get the PS3 and they
hate each other. Tried looking for new firmware but there's no updates
for this particular model. After looking for solutions online I find out
custom firmware which can easily be flashed onto older Linksys models
(more RAM apparently) so I decide to get my supposedly non-working
router which I luckily hadn't thrown away and put Tomato on it, and now
it all works great.
So I guess what I'm suggesting is looking for firmware updates or trying
new routers. Sometimes these devices just don't work well together.

The router usually works. It's just in the last week or so it stopped
working. I did discover that my computer was connected to two networks
for some reason so that may have done something. I haven't had a
chance to test if fixing that issue fixed my Xbox Live connectivity.
