Got mine from Walmart yesterday. I was hoping to pick up GRID in the
same trip, but looks like it shipped a day late. Great, brootal,
bloody, action game. The technical flaws mentioned in some early
reviews are still there. It pauses for 1 - 2 seconds during fights
when loading the next zone. The camera does have manual control, but
on its own it can frequencly hid the character. There is slowdown in
some areas, especially where fire is present. It seems to have more
invisible walls than I remember in NG Black. Other than these issues,
the fighting action is fantastic. Ryu leaves a trail of bodies,
limbs, blood, and brains in his wake. Fighting seems more fluid, is
faster, and more intuitive to pull off long combo strings. There are
new obliterating finishing moves that allow you to instantly
decapitate an enemy that has a dismembered arm or leg. Dismembered
enemies will crawl after you and pull off a kamakazi move if they get
close enough. It doesn't seem as hard as NG Black, but then again i'm
only playing on Warrior I think there are 3 more advanced difficulty
levels. Its probably the most viseral action game I've played. It
doesn't reach the production values of a God of War or Heavenly Sword,
the cut scenes don't look prerendered and could be better and the
voice acting is horrible. I've tried listening to it in Japanese and
it seems worst. But the actual gameplay is unrivalled.

I agree in that this game is 90% awesome and 10% awful, after making
it to Chapter 3. The 10% is mostly the camera getting stuck in a
corner and shuddering during a couple of boss battles, and the game
hitting a "now loading" screen for a couple of seconds out of
nowhere. The enemies in general do seem easier to kill (I'm playing
it on Path of the Warrior), and so far the game deemphasizes the
backtracking of its predecessor. The recharging health has sped the
pace up (as you're not backtracking to farm blue orbs, or fund a
constant need for potions), so to compensate, it throws a LOT of
enemies at you at once. The game moves fast, but at a price: there's
not a lot of extraneous graphical detail.

That being said, it plays even more like the 3D successor to Shinobi,
Strider and (the 2D) Ninja Gaiden than its predecessor. It has that
weird mix of near future technology, monsters, and feudal aesthetics
that those games had. Sometimes it feels like you're tossing a
decapitated limbs and head salad when you really hit the zone. While
Devil May Cry 4 finally made that series an effective competitor with
Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden 2 still beats it handily, if not by as much
as NG1 crushed the older DMC games. If you liked the original, you'll
probably like this one, unless you're looking for a MAJOR graphical
upgrade.

That was a better description than most gaming blogs. Bummer there isn't more post like this when people ask for opinions on here.

Does the game feel rushed at all to you? I am just a little surprised Team Ninja didn't put out a better product than this. It makes me wonder if it had something to do with Itakagi and Tecmo parting ways or MS pushing for NG2 to make it's release date because of MGS4. Maybe a combination of both or none of the above?

I would've definitely picked the game up it if was a little more polished. I eventually will get it but most likely through rental or down the road off of eBay.

I am content with GRID for now.
