Then you're not going to the right theaters. Some of the theaters here
in Southern Cali are state of the art with huge digital screens with a
native 2:35:1 aspect ratio, and THX or SDDS sound equipped at an
appropriate volume..

I admit it's going to be highly dependent upon your area.

I recall working as a summer intern at a company that was closeby a newly
opened, top-of-the-line theater which had matinees and discounts for
students. Since the company had a schedule of "half-day fridays" (you'd
work one extra hour M-Th) I could go see a movie for $3. That was a good
deal.

However now I live out in the South Bay, in Sunnyvale. Yes, there is a
good theater over in Santa Clara and another in Cupertino by my house.
They're always packed and overrun by kids, so you MUST use Fandango and
still get to the theater 30 minutes early, or else end up with really crummy
seats. The other theaters within a reasonable distance from me are older,
and therefore not as nice. Yeah, they might offer SDDS or THX, but the
screen and seats are almost as old as I am, and those oddly dome-shaped
theaters this area seems to like just don't do good things for accoustics.

Since you live in So. Cal. you also know that the price of a ticket to one
of those state-of-the-art theaters is over $10. Even the matinee is $8-9
in my area - and for some films they don't even have matinees.

Yeah it sucks dealing with crowds and all that, but go to the right
theaters and you won't find a better setup short of visitng a
millionaires house. I saw Iron Man last night on one, and while the
movie was a little slow at times the action and special effects were
stunning on a big digital screen and worth every penny I paid for the
experience.

It really doesn't take that much money to get a decent setup, even if you
want to go all the way and make a dedicated theater room. While the sky's
the limit, you can put together a theater for way less than what you're
going to spend on an used car.
