yep. that's why they call it 'classic'...

That doesn't mean anything. The EXACT same discussion takes place
between
fans of hip-hop all the time. It is identical except the difference is
"classic" is replaced with "old school". The thing is, it is all a
matter
of opinion and there is no right or wrong opinion.

I'd probably get shot the next time I was in Compton for saying that I
hate a lot of the old school rap but that's just the way it is. I'm
not a huge fan of rap in the sense that I only listen to very specific
artists - Dr. Dre, Snoop, Eminem, Ice Cube.

I'm not a fan of Ice T. I'm not a fan of 2 Live Crew. I'm not a fan of
Wu Tang. Hell, I don't even like most stuff that NWA did and I love
the solo careers of half the group.

Mattinglyfan is exactly right that there's no right or wrong
opinion... except that mine's right and everyone else's is wrong.

;-)

LOL, your age is definitely showing because NO ONE in Compton knows what
"old school" is. That goes much further back than Wu-Tang or Ice T for that
matter. We are talking Run DMC, 17 year old LL Cool J, Kool G Rap, the Fat
Boys, to a certain extent the Beastie Boys and so on.

Before Ice T? Ice T started rapping well before the Beastie Boys even
decided to jump on the hip hop bandwagon. Hell, the Beasties were a
metal/punk band until '85 when they debuted with License to Ill.

Wu Tang isn't REALLY old school but they predate a lot of what today's
fans would call rap. Public Enemy's definitely old school... I can't
believe I forgot them. They were rapping way back in the day while I
was still in grade school.

LL Cool J isn't that old, either... Ice-T was rapping before he was.

I think it is funny
how VH1 has 3 shows that feature old school rappers (Flava Flav, Salt n Pepa
and Mc Serch). I don't like Wu but Method Man was one of my favorite
artists back in the day. To this day, I will DJ a wedding of 30-somethings
and they will go crazy when I throw on some original Run DMC. Its a matter
of taste.

Run DMC isn't bad. They're pretty tame, though. I prefer NWA (or at
least certain members) whose members were rapping well before the
group's 87 technical first album (which WASN'T Straight Outta Compton).
