Do you have any actual definitive proof that VGChartz.com
overestimated sales of the Xbox 360 *and* did not overestimate sales
of the Playstation 3?

If VGChartz.com really is so wrong, perhaps you can share with us the
sources of information you use that present an accurate portrayal of
the worldwide sales numbers for both systems.

Firstly VGChartz use Famitsu and Mediacreate sales for their Japanese
sales.
Secondly, VGCHartz use ChartTRACK and GFK  for Europe and Australia.
The fact that as soon as Chart Track publish game sales figures for
EUrope VGChartz puts the numbers up proves this to be the case.

In the US, however, NPD only publishes monthly - and yet VGChartz try
to predict sales on a weekly basis.
So therefore, they have to do the data collecting themselves.
VGChartz are a very small outfit run by fans of videgoames,  - they
dont have access to sell through data from major retailers like
Gamstop, or  Amazon - beyond what you or I can get by ringing up and
asking individual stores.
The fact is, every single month VGHCartz sales data has proven to be
inconsistent with NDP - and they always struggle to explain this.

Then we here should only be having these discussions once per month...
it seems pointless to argue numbers when the accuracy of them is in
question.

Indeed. VGChartz do readjust historical data to reflect NPD and
manufacturer sales data, , but I note they failed to post any
comparisons when NPD published their stats this time round.
VGChartz always try to explain why they are off, and that is easier
when it's only 20-30k difference, but when it is 45k (pS3) and 147k
(360), the only conclusion one can come to is that their sample size
is just far too small to be truly representative.

This month (for January) their figures were 147k off those published
by NPD - therefore proving once and for all their weekly stats are
little more than educated guesses.

Unless you'd like to provide links proving otherwise that is.

Finally, I said they overestimated PS3 sales too - for North America,
but by a smaller ammount, compared to NPD. The only sales you can take
as read from VGChartz on a weekly basis are their European and
Japanese sales as they are gathered by proper, established sales
tracking firms
