I just really started it, I'm not far enough in it at all to write

First, people that hate turn based RPGs will hate this game. I've
always liked turned based RPGs, probably because I got my start with
paper and dice games way, way, way back in the day.
Second, people that hate Japanese RPGs are going to hate this game.
Playfully androgynous main character? Check. Amnesia? Yup. World that
has merged magic and technology? Yup.
Third, it's a very pretty game but there are some weird exceptions...
The character design is very nice, but when you're introduced to the
city council members they look very half-assed. It's like the team
assigned to work on them wasn't allowed to finish working. Some areas
could use a little more polish, which is strange considering how new
the game is, it only came out in December in Japan. I could understand
it it were a year old and took a long time to translate...
Anyways... back to the game...

The combat system leaves much to be desired.
After attacking, I can't find a way of defending. You just stand there
and take a beating from the other enemies.- Hide quoted text -

That's the way turn based RPG combat usually works. You have to select
defend at the beginning of the turn if that's what you want to do.
Sounds like you'd be more into the combat in Eternal Sonata.
