"A new report from independent warranty provider SquareTrade
has
found that the failure rate of an Xbox 360 is not as high as
critics would have you believe, but it is still much higher
than
the official number from Microsoft..."
Macworld article:http://easyurl.net/Fail_Fail_Fail
Even if that number is relatively true, it is still way too
high a
failure rate.
I liked one of the comments a poster made concerning that
article,
and
while I don't think the 360 is that bad of a machine, he makes
a
good
point about buying two after failures, and the issues with
COD4:
"2 failures? In how long? I could forgive one failure -- every
company
can make mistakes. But after the second, I wouldn't bother with
the
extended warranty. I'd avoid the product altogether. Halo's fun
and
all,
but really, the unreliability would be frustrate the heck outta
me.
Maybe
that's just me. I hate it when Call of Duty 4 multiplayer games
crash
due
to "host ended session" and connection timeouts.."
Did you write that one boody? *-)
Nope not me.
I ask that in jest, not that I thought you really asked that,
that's
why
I
left the wink *-)
I'm not even going to waste my breath on 360 failures any more..
All
I
will
say is this report is bull*** plain and simple. Launch units
have a
much
higher rate then 16.4% failure. I lost count how many failures I
went
through. I purchased an Elite hoping never to have to deal with
failures
again and even that gave me a problem initially. I am on my 2nd
Elite
(the
first failed because of a power surge. RROD) but the 2nd one,
other
than
the jet plane loud disc drive, is running flawlessly.
Mine is a replacement unit that I have now had for about 1-1/2
years
because
my launch unit stopped recognizing my devices (HDD, memory cards).
The
manufacture date on it is March 2006 and it runs great, quiet too.
Oh man with COD4! I had so many dropped games and you messaged
me
today.
MS better go on this freaking patch and run it through
certification
ASAP!
These dropped host, *** spawns and scopes not being accurate
are
working
my last nerve.
Well, I kept with it about another hour after you left. I still
got
a
few
host drops mainly before the match would even start. I know what
you
mean
about scopes not working. Hell, I must have unloaded a whole
clip at
point
blank I don't know how many times today and didn't get the kill,
I
even had
double tap turned on too.- Hide quoted text -

To avoid the host dropping issue, one good way is just to get a
good
set of friends that you play well with and go in together. Try to
start where only you guy's are in the lobby. Whenever our team
does
this, we always wind up with nights with zero drops due to the
host
leaving. I can only think of maybe one instance of that happening
over
the past week.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind as it does get frustrating as hell..
This
MP is in my top five all time for fun but it is wearing thin
because of
the issues.
Double tap is just a good way to burn through ammo, stopping power
seems to put them down much faster (though with the LMG's I do
like
double tap just for the fear instilling sound, especially the
SAW!).
-S
I found out it runs through the ammo pretty fast. I only use it on
the
assault type weapons. I tried it on the AK-74u and it burns through
it
and makes the weapon really unstable to fire. It is better without
it.
I
use the DT on the M16s and M4 mostly. I may have to try it on the
SAW
types, but those are long to reload, even with 'sleight of hand' as
a
setting.
My favorite weapons are the M16 and G36C (I rarely don't use these
as my
primary weapons) but once in a while I will use the P90 and RPD. You
should try double tap with the P90 (just for kicks) it shoots like a
laser
with barely any recoil.
Hey com'on man, I am not ranked that high yet LMAO. I just this
morning
made
Captain (level 31) I tell you, having DT on the M4 makes a world of
difference and having the AK-74u is awesome, they compensate for my
lack
of
aiming skills
This host thing is making me hate the game and it was the single
biggest
reason I stopped playing COD4 up until this past week. The game is
freaking awesome. It is my favorite shooter I have ever played on
the
360
but last night was nearly my final straw until the patch comes out..
I
had
an awesome streak going 21 kills and no deaths. I just call in my
helicopter to rack up a serious run of kills and the host shut down
the
room! I was so disgusted I got up and turned off my console and went
upstairs to watch cable with the wifey.
Oh well. Maybe I will play DMC4 for the 360 after all.
Man, that fucking sucks, to have a streak like thaat screwed! By the
way,
my
buddy at work decided on the DMC4 for the 360, he likes hack-n-slash
games
better on it. He says he loves the game and it is better then the
previous
version. When he is done with it, he is going to lend it to me. We
swap
games quite often.- Hide quoted text -

Double tap on the P90 is pretty wicked. The good thing about it is
that since it's such a large clip, you don't really notice that your
burning through the ammo so fast. If you toss on bandolier with that,
you'll pretty much be set.
Lvl 31? You'll be getting the good weapons soon. G36c is a great
assault rifle, though the clip is fairly small. It is my preferred
assault but right now I'm working towards my gold guns (I'm already
prestige 10/55). Using the MP44 right now and still have to finish the
G3 and M14 (ugh).
After you start prestige, do you start all over again, or do you keep
your level and then get the gold weapons, and what is the advantage to
the gold weapons? I am unsure how that works. I can say one thing, it
is faster leveling up in this than it is in RSV. Getting to Elite took
forever
Which game modes do you normally play? If you want to rank up faster,
do some search and destroy or headquarters. HQ gives you +5 every few
seconds when your team is holding it. If your team can do good there,
you can easily get 4-600 pts per match.
I always play team deathmatch, but I will try S&D HQ to get more
point.
A duh.
I didn't even read his post but rather skimmed through it.
HQ huh? Sounds like a good way to rank up fast.
I did another Prestige out of boredom and it took me 4 hours to get back
to 20. Getting to 55 on Team Death Match is tiresome.
Maybe you can help me on that one game mode, I am unfamiliar with it. I
wouldlike to rank up faster, but I still love playing deathmatch, it is
ruthless. When that game doesn't crap out, it is freaking awesome and I
cannot put it down. You know, the past week I have played it more than I did
(other than the campaign) since I bought upon release because of the issues
(mainly lag back then).
Does the PS3 version have the same targeting and dropped hosts issues too?
HQ is pretty basic. One "base" pops up on the map and your team simply
needs to capture it before the enemy and then prevent the enemy from
destroying it. Then it'll pop up somewhere else and you repeat.. While
your team holds it you get 5 pts every 5 seconds or so. Pretty good
way to get some free points. That and you of course get more points
for each kill. The advantage to capturing is that you know where the
enemy is going to and you can setup some good defenses and get a
decent number of kills. Just joining random games of HQ can be tough
if your not very good at it. It works best when you go in with a full
team of people you work well with. Communication with your team mates
is key to winning on this mode.
