MS recommends not using a Surge Protector but using one does not void
the warranty or at least they don't ask if you are using one.
They asked me if I was using one when I called in the RROD.

My mistake, it does for both MS and Nintendo

Where in the snippet below does it say ANYTHING about surge
protectors? The only even remotely close thing is the part about
"adaptors and power supply sources" that are "not sold or licensed by
Microsoft."

A surge protector is not in any way, shape or form a "source" of
power. That phrase refers to unofficial power supplies (in other
words, power bricks).

Xbox 360 Warranty

E. EXCLUSIONS FROM LIMITED WARRANTY

This Limited Warranty shall not apply and Microsoft has no liability
under this Limited Warranty if the Xbox Product:

* is used with products not sold or licensed by Microsoft (including,
but not limited to, non-licensed games and game enhancement devices,
adaptors and power supply sources) or which are otherwise incompatible;

Nintendo

WARRANTY LIMITATIONS

THIS WARRANTY SHALL NOT APPLY IF THIS PRODUCT: (a) IS USED WITH PRODUCTS
NOT SOLD OR LICENSED BY NINTENDO (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO,
NON-LICENSED GAME ENHANCEMENT AND COPIER DEVICES, ADAPTERS, AND POWER
SUPPLIES);

MS
power supply sources

Nintendo
POWER SUPPLIES

A Surge protector is NOT a power supply , OR a Power Supply Source. For that matter, your regular wall outlet is a "non-licensed.....power supply source"!!!
