Re: Sony to announce yet ANOTHER PS3 SKU?!

You have the warranty? I only ask, because you have a history of
embellishing claims you make in these forums, and when pointed out to you,
you don't reply. Now if you own a PS3, you may have a point, but whether the
manual says how to do it, does it say it "won't void" the warranty, if it
does, then that is great for PS3 owners, but I seriously doubt it. Hey, my
PC from Dell has instructions on how to replace a HDD if it goes bad under
warranty, but it voids it if I do this without using a Dell replacement
device. If they send me one, then it is good to go, not if I buy one myself.

Ask yourself this question then... If Sony didn't want you to swap out
the HDD, WHY ARE THE DIRECTIONS IN THE MANUAL? The point of the manual
is to document _supported_ operations of the PS3 - why, then, would they
use it to list something that is unsupported, and would void your
warranty? If that were the case, the manual would say "Do not open the
HDD access panel. Doing so could damage your PS3 and will void your
warranty." Does it say that? No. It says "here's how to put a new HDD
into your PS3. Step 1...."

Warranties are not airtight. They won't cover cases of "intentional
mis-use", so if you opened your PS3, removed the HDD, and tried to replace
it with a grilled cheese sandwich, don't expect Sony to honor the warranty
there.

It's would be bad business to let anyone mod their devices as they see fit,
and then fix it if something goes wrong in the process, and Sony isn't
making money from the sale of the device. You wouldn't enter the doors of a
small claims court without being laughed at if you tried press for coverage.

Again, if Sony didn't want users doing this, they wouldn't have put
directions in the manual. Anything that isn't in the manual is not
supported, and will possibly void your warranty.
